Deaf or Hearing child challenging Deaf Parents' rules

( No! I don't want to follow rules )

Many parents say, " I've told you a million times to go take a shower!" "How many times do i have to tell you?" It is not easy to get your child to follow your rules. To void battle , teach your child that can following directions is the means to end-getting to do what a child want.

Because Following rules that is imporant for help child understand her/his feelings of self-control and independence by allowing child to choose to do what you ask.

Normally, Children of all ages need rules. In order for a child to decide to follow rules, he needs to experience the benefits of doing so ( such as getting to do what he wants). For example, setting a rule such as " no television lately night between 9:00 pm and 10:00 pm"

Don't afraid your child to say things make you to feel terrible. Example: child say, " i dont like you. or Make me mad" " I don't want to be your friend". Young children are smart.

If a child fails to follow your directions, you can wait a min or two before you will explain. Calm and plan how to achieve one goal of getting your child to do what you asked.

What to Do

1. Remain Calm

2. Communicate American Sign Language with your child easily. Do not talk to your child too fast. Because child lose your points what you talked.

3. make sure that child must pay attendtion to you.

4. Give child simple words. Example: I said , " Bionda. Please make bed finish go playground " in (ASL) America Sign Language." My daugther replied me that she will do it.

5. Alway praise your child. Good work! Yah! Give me Five! etc.

6. If a child won't do your directions, you won't reward your child want.

Deaf and hearing children are unique and valued human being.
